Blogging – it's a buzz word that never goes away, with the media and the younger generations seemingly obsessed with the technology. But what exactly is blogging, why is it so popular, and how easy is it to do yourself? Because blogging is such a new technology, many people are still unaware of the sheer power the blogging medium can have both on and off of the internet. Blogs are now a legitimate source of information for journalists and researchers, and are often the first place that people look for news on their favourite musicians, authors, actors and politicians. Blogs are also used by the media and large businesses and organizations to keep in touch with audiences and consumers on a regular basis. In general, blogs are seen as a way to maintain a more personal connection with the rest of the world in an era when face-to-face communication is becoming less and less necessary.
But blogs aren't just used as a communication tool, in fact many schools and universities now rely on blogs as a relevant and interactive tool in the education process. Lecturers and teachers can use blogs to keep track of students' progress through topics or subjects, whilst students can use them as a way of keeping their research and assignment work in tidy and logical order. You wouldn't think that one medium or service could tick so many boxes, but it's true – blogging really is the way of the future.
